The Gold Coast Regional Botanical Gardens

Hidden right in the heart of the Gold Coast is this beautiful park.  It’s more than a park though – it’s a place where everyone can go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s like an escape into another world. You can’t help but be amazed by the size – some 31 hectares, and then wonder why it’s taken you so long to discover its many charms and delights.

Everyone in the family will find something to love about this space, as the entire recreational area is designed to give you a small taste of as many different environments as possible including mountain rockery normally only seen by the most adventurous bushwalkers and also the gorgeous butterfly garden – which is sure to bring a big smile to the little ones.. So many varieties!

The Friends Centre is a great place to start your visit, providing information about the various displays and educational activity for the young or young at heart.  It’s open from 10am – 2pm daily.  Pick up a couple of trail maps – Mangroves to Mountains Trail and The Central Lake Trail.  Follow the numbers on the maps to discover amazing facts along the trails.  Contact The Friends Centre to find out more information on guided walks and planting days.

The Botanical Gardens has ample facilities including toilets, barbeques, shaded children’s playground and plenty of undercover tables to enjoy your picnic lunch.  There are even dog friendly areas so our four legged friends don’t miss out on the fun.  Bring along their favourite ball or toy.

The kids will feel free to wander along the boardwalk, which makes life easier for mums with strollers too. There is so much to explore – don’t forget to look for forest friends along the way, you never know where they might be hiding!

Of all the gardens and environments, the sensory garden is a highlight – especially designed for disabled visitors. The gardens are raised to enable easy interaction between guests and nature.  Probably handy for little people too!

Children of all ages would be easily entertained for hours – there are so many worlds to explore and get lost in.  So whether you are a big kid or looking to spend a fantastic day with your own children, you just can’t go past the Botanical Gardens.
