All Abilities Flying Fox Swing | Broadbeach

Last week the Broadbeach all abilities park had an official opening for the new Flying Fox swing, a very unique piece of play equipment that allows children with a physical disability to play side be side with their able-bodied friends.

The flying fox swing was funded by the Gold Coast City council and The Inner Wheel of Broadbeach who are a community minded group of ladies, that fund raise and dedicate their time to help local Gold Coast children in need.

The new edition to the park means children like Tilly Wilson have been given the opportunity for more inclusive play with her friends. Tilly Wilson has Cerebral Palsy and struggles to sit independently or hold herself up on a regular swing. However the flying fox with its universal seat design provides side and back support with a harness to hold the child, this has been an excellent addition to the Broadbeach playground.

Tilly Wilson’s parents Andy & Angie said that the Broadbeach all abilities park is a great playground that provides a unique environment for children of all ages and all abilities to play side by side. Children with a physical disability just want to be included and mingle with able-bodied children in the world of play. At other play grounds Tilly can only use one or two pieces of equipment if she’s lucky, where as now Tilly has the opportunity to make a choice. Tilly’s family can’t thank Phia Damsma and the woman involved with The Inner Wheel of Broadbeach for their initiative and dedication towards the park and fund raising for the new Flying Fox swing.

To see the smile it brings to Tilly’s face warms the heart.

Tilly is currently in the running to win a grant for her therapy from Sun Super Dreams and would appreciate your support by voting for Sally’s Dream Helping Tilly to get up and go!
