Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival

1

Ex-straw-dinary family fun – the Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival is an annual FREE event celebrating the great lifestyle on the Mountain. It is a huge sculpture show with the subjects being Scarecrow related!

The 2013 Scarecrow Trail has been extended and scarecrows will be peering down from trees, parachuting into gardens, hiding behind fences and climbing everything from ladders to rooftops, it has become Spot the Scarecrow Discovery Trail.

Everyone and anyone is encouraged to make a scarecrow and display it on the ‘Spot the Scarecrow Discovery Trail’ or in front of their homes or businesses. The Scarecrows on the Discovery Trail can compete in several categories, for great prize money and local fame. Young, old, clever and artistically-challenged all participate and the result is hundreds of scarecrows that have to be seen to be believed.

There will be a family friendly Street Party from 6pm to 9pm, Friday 18 October on Main Street North Tamborine. Entertainers and street performers will be scattered throughout the area. Participants are encouraged to Dress in theme with the festival.

The competitions aren’t confined to Scarecrows – there’s colouring, poetry, entertainment and performance art, so there really is something for everyone. Exploring the Scarecrow Trail and spotting the scarecrows is best done at a leisurely pace so you can enjoy everything Tamborine Mountain has to offer on this special weekend.

The Zamia Theatre will feature the Kids for Kids Concert from 12 noon on Saturday 19 October. A chance for 6 – 12 year olds to show their talents whatever they may be. In the evening there’s a Bush Dance run by Transition Tamborine – a multi-generational shindig that is simply FUN that is not-to-be-missed.

The a-maiz-ing entertainment continues on Sunday 20 October with buskers, face painters, balloon magic and much more fun along Gallery Walk and culminates with the Grand Finale and prize presentations late Sunday afternoon at the TM Brewery.

It’s a lively weekend for all age groups and easy to spend the whole weekend enjoying the vintage shops, cafes, restaurants, great nature walks and parks – everything that is great about Tamborine Mountain!
