What is MS?

Multiple Sclerosis or MS is a disease of the central nervous system affecting more young adult Australians than any other neurological condition. The symptoms vary drastically from person to person and could include blurry vision, loss of balance and muscle coordination, slurred speech, difficulty walking, short-term memory loss, tingling and numbness or in severe cases tremors and paralysis.

It is a disease that typically surfaces in the earlier years of a person’s life; the average age of diagnosis is just 30 years. It is also 3 times more common in women.

More than 23,000 people in Australia have been diagnosed with MS and the number is growing. No cure has yet been found.

MS Queensland enables support for people with MS, including residential facilities, social support programs, accommodation support, attendant care, involvement with regional centres and country link programs. These are vital services that help maintain independence and dignity for MS sufferers.
