Experience Elizabethan culture this weekend

This weekend the Gold Coast will be home to an interactive experience from the past. The Gold Coast Renaissance Faire is held on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 of May at Pratten Park, Broadbeach.

This re-creation of a country fair of the 16th century is sure to have something for all ages to enjoy, with realistic entertainment, clothing, arts, games and food. In Elizabethan times, these fairs were a merry time for all walks of life to get together to carry out business or just to enjoy the festivities.

A “living theatre” right on our doorstep, the Gold Coast Renaissance Faire invites their audience to transport themselves back to another time and get involved in the spectacle.

Over the 2 days, there will be ongoing entertainment both onstage an off. There will be short plays and music from the time. Actors will mingle with the crowds and draw visitors into the experience by addressing them how they might have in the 1500s.

Kids will learn about history by being immersed in the enchantment of the day, including magic and puppet shows, storytelling and games. The Faire will be a creative and electronic-free time to use their imagination and experience something completely removed from their every day life.

For those into sports, there will be swordfights and archery tournaments, and chances to win prizes with tests of visitors’ skill and luck. Handmade crafts like those of Elizabethan times will be on display, and visitors will have the opportunity to get involved or take home an authentic costume or accessory to continue the fun.

Why not take a trip to this fairy tale world, sample the food and learn about times gone by.
