Gold Coast Kids have put together the best places to celebrate Australia Day with your family on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane.

Gold Coast City Council Australia Day Celebrations | Surfers Paradise

Starting at 10am, The Gold Coast City Council Australia Day Celebrations at Evandale Parklands is a free event including fun, food and entertainment. Entertainment includes:

  • JJ Richards Woodchopping Championships – see the chips fly with our Aussie axe men
  • Dairy Farmers Billy Lids Playground – $3 pony rides, $3 carnival rides, free face painting, animal nursery, native wildlife and puppet shows
  • Neumann’s Bush Track – sheep shearing, whip cracking, snake shows, blacksmithing, damper making plus a wide range of historical displays
  • $10,000 Griffith University Gift Foot Race
  • The Robinson’s Family Circus – Chinese lion dancers, kids circus workshops and circus performances
  • Australian Citizenship Ceremony
  • Dinki-di Aussie food
  • Kids shows and activities, bands and much, much more!
  • Key to the City presentation to World Surfing Champion Joel Parkinson at 11.30am

Australia Day Festival | Southbank Parklands, Brisbane

Starting at 10am, the Australia Day Festival at Southbank Parklands, Brisbane features live music, activities, entertainment and fireworks. Get your face painted or a temporary body tattoo, sample Darrell Lea green and gold liquorice, enter the colouring in competition, attend a creative workshop and browse the Young Designers Market.

Band performing include Evermore, Busby Marou and Art of Sleeping. Catch Jay Jay the illusionsist or the Triple M Grill Team’s Wife Carrying Championships.

Flag Raising Ceremony & Fireworks

  • 11:15am – 21 gun millitary salute and aircraft flypast
  • 12:15am – Flag Raising
  • 7:30pm – Fireworks

Australia Day Celebrations | Viney Park, Coomera

25/01/2013 at 12:30pm: Due to forecasted wet and windy weather ‘Australia Day 2013 in Coomera’ has been cancelled.

Celebrations kick off at 4:30pm at Viney Park, Coomera for the Australia Day Celebrations. Enjoy fun activities and entertainment in the park!

  • BBQ and activities from 4pm to 7pm
  • Movie Red Dog (PG) 7pm to 8.30pm – bring a bean bag or picnic rug
  • Prizes for “Best Australia Day Outfit” (Boy & girl 13yrs and under), also family group
  • The Greater Thong Throwing Competition, and prizes for the best Cooee
  • Tie Dying with Aspiral Design – $3 bring your own t-shirt, shorts or pillowcase, $4 facewasher & $6 pillowcase (supplied) – limited numbers
  • Make your Mark on the Australia Day Handprint Canvas
  • Live music by Peter McAulay ‘The Silver Fox’, Sunshine Jumping Castle, Wild Rangers Wildlife Encounters, story telling corner
  • Food, drinks and ice creams, and lots more activities
